Factors influencing self-healing mechanisms of cementitious materials: A review

The increasing awareness of climate change and global warming has pushed industries to be more conscious their environmental impact, especially in the construction industry with main contributor being concrete. Concrete is a material that very high demand for structural applications. However, it’s major concern challenges microcracking. New technology seen development self-healing material, using novel techniques bring cementitious materials back its original state. This paper reviews evaluates adopted by researchers field achieve focus on factors influencing mechanisms autogenous healing bacteria-based healing. Various parameters including bacteria type, pH, temperature, nutrient, urea, Ca2+ concentration, concentration application, pre-cracking, condition, cement crack width are all important efficiency, although use water facilitate both ureolytic mechanism paramount triggering processes. study thoroughly presents various correlation Further studies identified better understand exact taking place which process contributed how much healing, this review could serve as an informative platform these pursues.
